Yeah NSSG was on the allopurinol + 6MP combo. She ended up getting sepsis while on it, but I don't think that's very common. I've heard the allopurinol requires biweekly blood monitoring the whole time you're on it. Whereas 6MP only, can be trimonthly the duration you're on it.
Biologics don't require bloodwork.
I had sepsis from remicade double dose, pred and methotrexate. I had neutr
openia from 6mp + allopurinol, but i was able to get that under control by stopping and restarting on lower doses & lots of blood draws to monitor.
I don't think either option is a bad one. I tried simponi before Remicade simply because of convenience. I was trying to keep all the biologics in my back pocket for when I NEEDED them, then when I finally accepted that it was time, I was a non-responder to everything I tried. I wasn't a great responder to 6mp either. It was a lot of work to get it to work, almost to the point that I've wondered if it was the 6mp that got me into remission, or if it was a spontaneous remission. Even mesalamine provided short-lived results. The only thing that was 100% effective was steroids. Whatever you choose, I think there is a lot of hope. It sounds like your symptoms are livable regardless, so maybe you could also try some dietary restrictions to see if that provides any relief?
