Hi All

I was diagnosed with UC last year after years of testing and misdiagnosis. I was doing well on Mesalazine and has 2 courses of steroid suppositories to get things under control. I've recently had a baby and ended up with a post partum flare. I was having steroid suppositories for it but unfortunately contracted Campylobacter food poisoning after finishing the course.

My GP thought It may have been my flare getting worse so I was put on oral steroids for 2 weeks. As I was tapering off the results came back confirming the food poisoning. I had started to "get better" so didn't opt for anti biotics. It's been a few weeks now and things still aren't right. I'm still a bit loose, go loo after eating etc. I'm worried it could be a relapse of the bug or I'm stuck with post infectious IBS with the flare still there maybe.

Has anyone else had experience of this bug alongside their UC?

I had picked up a few bugs with my UC over the years and they wipe me out. The people in house (5 kids and my wife) tend to suffer for a day or two and then are ok. I tend to take 7 to 10 days to settle. Have you kept a food diary to see if there are any trigger foods? I have to stay off coffee (even decafe), fatty foods, high fibre foods and processed meat until it settles again. I hope you feel better soon.

I had food poisoning with a flare in 2012 and was in the hospital for two nights. I couldn't hold down water and got delirious. I was put on cipro and flagyl. When I got home I was still flaring but I was able to eat again.

Ive not been tested again for the bug, it can be detectable for up to 7 weeks so there wouldn't be much point at the moment.

I had trouble with dairy before I was diagnosed with UC but things mostly settled once I'd started treatment but at the moment it is adding to the toilet troubles which I guess is common after bugs to. I've got to go back to my GP for some blood tests to check if my markers were up due to the flare or the bug.

It's just frustrating, every time I feel like I have a handle on things something happens and I'm back on the loo all day.
