Liver not working & ascites ... Any positives

I've tried so bloody hard over the years to write off the downs (of which there have been many) and big up the few highs. But the negatives keep coming.

Two weeks ago my abdomen started to swell and I generally felt like death. My LFTs never went out of range (infact still aren't). Here is another friggin' flare I thought. Anyway detail not needed ... Just been told my liver isn't working and I've 2 litres of ascites in my abdomen. After the scan they also did unplanned chest X-rays and mammograms! A barrage of further tests are needed - and they plan to drain the fluid.

Now I can google as well as the next person... So I'm somewhat friggin' scared. Has anyone got any first hand experience of ascites being caused by something minor. Anything... Please

Thanks - its not blood (they said) it's specifically ascites causing the bloating. Raised heart beat slightly raised bp. Everything looked fine but they could not see the ovaries so I need to go elsewhere for that. At this early stage they don't think it's my liver per se ... It's poor working is potentially just an effect. Which may explain why blood tests are all still in range.

Ovaries are the thing they want to investigate ... That's what scares the hell out of me. Ascities (according to google) is the presentation of late stage ovarian cancer. Prognosis 4mths - up to 12 with treatment. Scared doesn't even come close to how I'm feeling which is why I was hoping someone might go ... 'Oh yeh there is all this serious stuff but it could just be this minor thing.... Don't over react'. At the moment I can't find anything minor.

Duffie....when are they going to draw the fluid? It should be tested I think.

Serositis is another possibility. Don't know how it's diagnosed.

Are you being set up for an MRI?

Hang though through this, and it sure is a scary process. Compile as many questions as you can to get answers towards diagnosis and to push for tests to get there.

Man sometimes weekends have the worst timing!!! Hang in there. I know usually we hope for the weekend to slow down but for you I hope it flies by this time!!! Waiting is so hard. I hope you get things figured out next week.

I've been there after a bad X-ray and breast cancer scare waiting for results (only a scare not actual) and it's true, you become very aware how life can change in a day and mortality comes closer.

Anything can happen in a day and we have no guarantees of any tomorrow. Don't be sad this weekend, enjoy every minute as much as possible. Live in the day.

Yes I have my partner who is fab... My other children and family are overseas. So far I've only mentioned to my brother over email (as he's been through big medical battles in the past). Just getting to Tuesday without losing my mind is proving difficult... For my partner too.
