Sigmoidoscopy tomorrow...is it painful?

Hi guys...me again.
Gosh, I am really getting full use out of this site!!
Any way I have a sigmoidoscopy tomorrow afternoon and was wondering what everyone's experience had been?
I had a colonoscopy 5 months ago and found it almost unbearable even with the sedative.
I really don't want to have a sedative tomorrow if I can help it.
Also the have given me moviprep to take and looking at some of the later posts it's not the norm. Haven't been able to eat since 1pm this afternoon and have to take my first sache at 7 followed by my second sache at 6am tomorrow morning.

I think this is individual. I've had twilight sedative and general for colonoscopies and never was aware at all, and had minimal gas cramping after. Others report waking up, being aware, or have lots of cramping after.

Many prep for flexsig with just an enema, but the more extensive prep may have been because of circumstances observed at you prior procedure.

I had a flex sig without any sedative and found it "uncomfortable" at the beginning but then it was fine. I wasn't flaring at the time, so that might make a difference if you are.

I've had numerous flexible-sigmoidoscopies without sedation. They're at most 5 minute procedures. If you're in remission there is not much sensation other than a slight discomfort from the air a scope pumps into you for visibility. It gets progressively less comfortable depending on how much inflammation is present. If you are flaring badly and have severe inflammation and symptoms then definitely opt for sedation. If you're only mildly inflamed then it'd be a bit uncomfortable but bearable.

2 fleet enemas are a typical prep.

Thank you all. I may opt for a sedative then as I am currently flaring.
Dr wouldn't give me meds as they want to see it in full flare mode. Have a nurse on standby with my mesalamine suppositories. Never have I wanted to pop something up my rear so much! 🙈

Why isn't moviprep the norm? I used it. I personally found them quite painless and beforehand I was terrified. I was awake and sedated and on the second time I was aware and remembered everything! I found that after I had mild cramping and was a tiny bit tender.

And I'm done.
Wasn't as bad as the colonoscopy and I didn't have a sedative 😁
Good news...inflammation has regressed to 5-10cm in the rectum where as before it was 15cm.
Inflammation looks mild to moderate so all round not too bad just incredibly windy now

Good news, hit that inflammation hard with rectal medications. Canasa suppositories and steroid suppositories would be your best bets!

They have given me mesalazine suppositories for the next 6 weeks to get me in remission...they worked wonders last time. But I then have to take Pentasa orally as a maintenance.
So all round not a bad outcome and I finally feel like I am getting somewhere. 😁
