Bad flare. In hospital.

I just pooped my hospital bed... They gave me some strong IV pain meds and I fell asleep and 30 min later I wake up in a huge pool. :/ Had to get new linens and a new gown. Never had that happen before. I didnt start the prep until 9 p.m. though so Im sure that didnt help. Good thing my nurse is super nice.

Sara, so sorry to hear about what you are going through!

Is someone taking care of Pumpkin for you? Wish I lived nearby, I would happily do it.

You poor thing. I don't miss flare ups one bit!!! I hope you get better with the pred for now... I think I'd want to try to get started on remicade ASAP if i were in your shoes. Anything is better than prednisone - but I guess you need to remain calm and treat based on whatever you find. it's still possible this is related to an infection...

Are they going to give you antibiotics? Seems like you were doing much better while on them, but maybe they weren't the right ones since you relapsed... or maybe you didn't take them for long enough :(

They just told me I now have c. Diff! So I did that prep for nothing and stayed in the hospital for nothing!!! Im not happy at all. I wish they were still scoping me because I wonder if anything else is going on. Seems I keep getting one thing after another. Still havent spoken to my doctor and dont know what the treatment will be.

Thanks. He is giving me vancomyacin. Sounds like he may keep me here until tomorrow. Glad it is not my UC!

I just saw my other post about being in the hospital with c diff in November got locked due to spamming about activated charcoal (LOL!!). Just popped in to let everyone know I have been campylobacter and c. diff-free since Christmas! I never did find out why I kept getting campylobacter. Im still mostly boiling my water but I have drank some out of the tap and I did not get sick.

Hi Amy! Sorry you have campylobacter. It was pure hell for me that lasted on and off for three months. Mine would get better while on antibiotics and then come back a few days after I was done with the antibiotic course. After my initial hospitalization and scope, I was put on a course of Cipro and Flagyl. My symptoms improved within a few days and I felt back to normal by the end of the 10-day course. Five days later, I got violently ill again. Went on another 10 days of just Cipro (a higher dose) and got better. Got sick again two days later. I think I then went on a third round, got better, but then got c diff (you do NOT want to get c diff...worst pain imaginable), was hospitalized again. Took vancomycin for the c diff and got better. Then got campy again! Doctor put me on azithromycin that time and I havent had it since.

Could your UC be flaring up simultaneously? Have they re-tested to make sure you still have the campylobacter? It is rare but it can be transmitted by pets or through water.

Thanks for responding Sara. How long were you on azithromycin the last time? I have a 10 day course, but am leaving on vacation on Saturday and I would feel better if I had a few more days of antibiotic while I'm there. Thinking 14 days might do the trick.

I have the unused refill in my cabinet. It was 7 days of Azithromycin. Of course this was after 3 courses of other antibiotics for campylobacter and a course of Vancomycin and dificid for c diff though.
