Hurricanes and UC

I am not in Hurricane Michael's path (for now) but it brings back memories of Hurricane Katrina and watching CNN interview people pre-hurricane asking about their evacuation plans. One woman said she had UC and really could not leave due to that. Broke my heart because I was flaring at that time and understood her situation.

Hoping everyone stays safe that has to deal with this. Poorer people of course have fewer choices about evacuating because they don't have money for motel stays or even transportation. The thought of going to a shelter and sharing a bathroom with hundreds or thousands of people is enough to make me sweat because even in remission i know in the morning I want 100% bathroom availability.

Q-glad you haven't lost power for any longer than that. In winter that could be a big problem.

Because we live in SW FL and have been through hurricanes, lost elec and water (no toilet!) for 5 days we have a generator and a portable toilet. Have not had to use but we are prepared. You think water would not be affected but where we lived at that time (Naples FL) the county "lift stations" operated by electricity to move water and sewer. No electric=no water or toilet flushing.

Something you never think about losing until it happens.

Evacuation adds a whole lotta stress. Where do you go? Hurricanes do not always follow the path that forecasters predict. In Florida you could drive from one coast to the other and the hurricane may follow you.
Family in South Carolina are deciding today whether to evacuate and where since the roads west are already becoming gridlocked. They are near the coast in "Low Country".

I've thought about this. Mostly that if I had to evacuate that I would be carrying boatloads of enemas. I remember during Hurricane Sandy when we were without power for a week, I was happy I don't need electricity to administer them. So there is the positive. The negative is I am so scared to be without my enemas that I literally have dreams that I am going somewhere and I left them at home and can't get them. Ugh, crazy! In fact I have been stockpiling them this year in case my insurance decides not to cover them. I need an emergency enemas kit...lol.

Alice you must be in north SC outside the mandatory evacuation area. I don't know how forecasters can be so precise about what will happen and so I hope your area will not see flooding or Cat4 winds. I've been through a Cat3 that was bad enough, electric lost for many days and no toilets.

We have family near coast south of Charleston SC and they evacuated today, but haven't heard where.
Shelters are open in our area even though we will not get hurricane because that heavy rain will flood many peoples homes.

Be careful of downed electric lines afterwards.
