Thanks! I was wondering if you had stuck with SCD. With UC it takes about 2 years minimum on strict SCD to have the gut fully heal. Many of the folks in my support group on FB are on SCD in complete remission and were able to get off meds. Others are still on meds to help.
There's a 3, 6, and 12 month flare with SCD. I'm entering my 3rd month in October (I had gone on it, got off, went back to it). I plan to stick with it most likely forever, but at least for a few years. If it's working then and I can retain remission, I'll stick to it.
I love the food on the diet. I figured I'd ask how you were because I love success stories (of any variety). I, too, started with proctitis. It worsened to severe extensive (basically half the colon), though the doctor writes pancolitis on my paperwork...
Man, 3 years on strict SCD with no cheating is intense. My big hold up is how much it limits certain experiences. My girlfriend and I are both very health conscious but we're also huge foodies. 95% of our meals at home are healthy and SCD is no issue there, but when it comes to vacations, holidays, outings, etc we definitely very much like to enjoy our "cheats" and SCD isn't conducive to that at all. I'm aware there are great foods on the SCD but it's not at all the same for those special events.
In any case, health comes first and today I had 3 bowel movements with bright red blood :\ so even though I've only been off the SCD for a week I guess I'll be going back to it for the time being.
Do you just stick to the "legal" foods or have you taken it a step further and eliminated some common problematic foods? At one point I was doing SCD with no honey, fruit, peanut butter, eggs,or cheese and man that eliminates SO many food options but those are all foods people mention as potential issues so I wanted to start off with none of them but it was very hard to get adequate calories. Right now I'm just doing regular SCD which allow those and it's much better as I have a lot of cheese on my meats and veggies and then I'll have fruit+peanut butter+honey
