Marvel introduces superhero with IBD

“It’s not my feelings I want to share, Doc. I was hoping to tell her my secret.”

“You’re going to tell her about your super-nanite armor?”

“Not that secret, Doc. I want to tell her that I have IBD.”

People with chronic diseases like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) often talk about having a secret identity. They hide their condition from others out of embarrassment or not wanting to seem like a downer, and they may feel like they’re just supposed to suck it up and deal with it. This might seem like the noble, heroic thing to do, but this attitude makes even a superhero with armored skin feel like his IBD is the weird secret he has to keep from a potential love interest.

I believe each and every one of us are frigg'n super heros to live with ulcerative colitis, as it takes serious superhuman strength of mind and emotion to smile and carry on about our day despite everything that UC (and it's extra-intestinal manifestations) do to us. And, yes, we all do have our kryptonite, whether that is gluten, spicy curry, alcohol, or various other things.

Just a quick peruse of the 1st page of the forum and you find some clear examples of superhero-dom like SolomonSeal, UB Tough, and Baggravation to name a few...

Good for the kids to though, to have a comic book superhero to relate with. As certainly, uc and IBD hit at any age.
