Hi!
I was diagnosed with ulcerative proctitis in May 2015. I am doing OK modifying my diet and taking 1000mg Canasa 1xday and Visbiome, Mutaflor and Culturelle. I take the Visbiome and Mutaflor at their study dose for UC. (The dosage in published studies that said these 2 drugs helped maintain remission for UC.)
I have a question that my GI wasn't able to answer. (She doesn't believe in probiotics really. "Just take anything on sale at the drugstore.") So I thought I would mine the collective wisdom of the group:
Since my inflammation is so close to the exit, do I need to increase my dose of probiotics to get the CFUs where they need to go?
Conversely, since my inflammation is localized and perhaps compartively small, would a lower dose be acceptable?
These questions might stem from my ignorance about how probiotics populate the mucosal tissue in the colon.
Any insights would be much appreciated!
