Hi lizzy
Constipation (also known as C here) is my main symptom that I devote my energy to prevent. In my case certain foods (a lot of them actually) cause my colon to come to a halt and it's a bear to get things moving again.
Here are some of the foods I avoid or eat very little of: fiber is the #1 problem and it is present in a lot of things I like to eat (but don't) such as oatmeal, olives, broccoli, kale and collards, and as I think of more I'll edit to add more. The only fiber pill my gut allows is Citrucel, the other fiber pills cause C and I have tried most of them.
Besides fiber the #2 cause of C for me are grains. Rice, wheat, all of them. I LOVE bread and rice but my gut cannot handle them. Luckily I can have one piece of Udi's white bread (rice flour) as toast in the morning. Cannot explain why this is OK and cooked rice is not but it is.
What I do when C appears: teaspoons of olive oil, lots of water, exercise. I have even eaten foods that cause BM's such as grapes because fructose does that. As you probably know even coffee doesn't help when the big C happens. Healthy oils really help: coconut oil, olive oil, etc.
Your food list that causes C may be different than mine or maybe food makes no difference for you.
Some doctors suggest going on a low residue diet but that usually involves bread which is not good for me.
Hope you find some answers.
I have found in US that GI docs are of no help when it comes to non-RX answers. They have blank faces when diet is mentioned because they have no training in it. It took me years to figure out good food vs. bad food for my gut but when I got it figured out my gut got hugely better acting.
