Vancomycin + Prednisone?

Great, I've got C. Diff. Doc prescribed Vancomycin 4x daily for 14 days. I'm still on 40mg Prednisone, and I'm reading some allusions here and there that it's not good to take the two drugs together...But nowhere does it say why.

Is this combination dangerous?

I don't think it's dangerous. I think the 'allusions" is that Prednisone can sometimes cause c.diff but the vanco will treat the c.diff.

There are a whole bunch of reasons that you should get off Prednisone as soon as you can.

Been on Vancomycin and Prednisone several times and never had any problems.

Okay thanks guys! I'm tapering as soon as possible, but doc doesn't want to start tapering until my first Remicade infusion, which can't happen until this stupid C. Diff is gone.

Prednisone suppresses the immune system, so it would make it harder for your body to fight off c diff. Sometimes it's necessary to be on both Vancomycin + Prednisone simultaneously. Certainly, it's preferable to not be, when possible.

I have c diff too. What fun, huh? My doctor told me it was okay to take vanco alongside pred. Whatever you do, take ALL the vanco. C diff. is a scary nightmare and we dont want it becoming resistant to vanco.

Definitely taking all of the vancomycin because I want to eradicate this crap. Get it out of me.

I just started feeling better. Im on day 7 of dificid. Hope you feel better soon. C diff scared the crap out of me (literally...).
