Well as far as colonoscopies... it seems that because mine wasn't "preventative" and I have an actual problem (UC)...they are not covered just subject to the amazingly high deductible and co-insurance. So basically it will cover you unless you have a problem. Sorry I hear all the people who don't have the ACA talk about how great it is....for me (and my opinion alone) it totally blows. Again, not a political statement but I hate my plan and it looks worse yet for 2017.

That's interesting that it's Obama' fault, it probably has more to do with the drug companies, insurance companies, hospitals, the medicare part-d disaster were the Medicare was prevented from negotiating drug pricing.

Medical inflation rates were half as much the 5 years after the ACA as it was the previous 5 years before Obamacare.

When you get to Medicare you can thank Obama for closing the donut hole but Medicare might be privatized by then.

I will say I/we were promised that my premium's would go down by 1000's of dollars and I could keep my Doctors. If this happened whoever did it would get full credit...so if you want credit when things work out then be willing to take blame when it doesn't. These things did not happen...I felt mislead and disappointed.

I don't care who does it but in my opinion the ACA sucks, needs fixing and we need to stop making excuses for any politician when it doesn't work out and hold their feet to the fire.

hateuc & Alice -- have you checked to see what is available outside of the Exchange through a private insurance broker? The only reason you need to use the exchange is to get the subsidy. As high as your premiums are you might be able to find a better deal privately (even if you are getting a subsidy) ... maybe not ... but you are still in open enrollment so it might be worth spending some time to look. I just took a look at what is available on the Exchange for Pennsylvania for 2017 and there are a lot less choices and much higher premiums than there were for 2016. When I was out of work at the beginning of this year I had a lot of plans to choose from ... now there are only 3 or 4 and none were the same as the plan I had.

I agree that ACA has problems ... but I think the program could be fixed rather than tossing it completely. I guess we'll have to wait & see what new plan Trump comes up with.

CC, I actually went through a private insurance broker. The plans outside the exchange that I could get were not any better. I usually try not to comment on such heated topics, but health insurance makes me so furious. I even was very out of character and went on a huge venting rampage to my poor insurance broker. she's a good lady though so she understood.I appreciate the suggestion though just in case it could've worked out better.

Trying to be positive that something good can be done with this whole situation.

Will President Trump keep his promise on Medicare and Social Security? I believe it was this promise that allowed him to nab the Republican nomination over the other candidates who wanted to 'privatize'.

Actually I am not that concerned about Medicare being privatized no matter what Trump tries to do. As Old Mike said in a previous thread, messing with Medicare is the quickest way for a politician to leave office.

IamCurious, I agree with you that Dems shot themselves in the foot & several times, not only by final candidate choices. They allowed a hike in Medicare Part B deductible for 2016, whereas there had been a rollback in 2012 election yr! Now the deductible is being raised again-- to $183 for 2017. That's a tidy sum considering that seniors also were denied a COLA increase in Social Security benefits for 2016-- on grounds that U.S. economy did not show any inflation! Ha! imagardener2: why did your husbands doc recommend Medicare opposed to advantage plans? Is Medicare more advantageous for the doctors or patients? My husband just signed up for advantage - he is in excellent health - barely needs any medical care and takes no Rxs. As he ages I suspect he'll eventually switch over to Medicare for part d

The way I understand Med. Advantage is that the insurance company gets a lump sump from government to "manage" the persons healthcare vs. original Medicare is pay-as-you-go. When I see how hard insurance companies advertise Advantage plans and do not advertise Medigap plans at all I conclude that they make more money from Advantage.

This is his 3rd year on Medicare+Medigap+Part D RX coverage and we reviewed choices again. It was incredibly hard to get info from Humana about their Medigap plan prices. By law all insurers Medigap plans must offer identical coverage but they can charge diff. rates.

Like your spouse mine is very healthy, no condition requiring RX meds. He has Part D for meds because a senior consultant (no ties to insurer) told him he'd pay more for Part D in later years if he didn't sign up in beginning.

All Medigap policies allow people to switch policy any time they want to, no deadline. Advantage plans deadline to switch is from Oct to Dec 7.

UC Prisoner: original Medicare can be better than Advantage depending on doctor participation in the patient's home area. In my case, for example, it made sense to enroll in original because my IBD gastro participates in it. Advantage plans usually limit patient coverage to their network of physicians. Look at Medicare.gov to check on the requirements for enrollment in Part D-- because a retiree will get financially penalized for delaying enrollment in it indefinitely, unless they have carryover drug coverage from their last employer. / Old Hat (36 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
