I started having symptoms at the end of April 2015, they were out of hand by May. I was having 20-25 bloody bm's/day and vomiting almost daily. I hid the illness due to fear, went to the hospital in August, diagnosed in September. I'd lost 1/5th of my body weight, so was weak for many months after. Prednisolone kicked in within a week (started in sept), and my bm's were down to about 8 and life was a lot more bearable, took about 6 weeks on it to get down to 2bms/day. Thought I was over it within a month of finishing pred I started flaring again, albeit a lot minor than before (6bm/day, no blood) and I was put back on steroids. My GI deemed me as steroid dependent, that worried me. I made changes with my diet and had cbt to lower my stress and anxiety. For me I had success, I've been in remission since April this year, and have had my calprotectin checked every 4 weeks and all is good, although I still need to gain a couple of pounds. My GI is very happy with my progress, he told me from my initial scope he would never believe I would just be on Asacol at this point.
