Back again on prednisolone

Hi, everyone
I recently had a colonoscopy that showed only sigmoiditis which was severe( 30cm) , everything else was clear even the rectum was normal. I was put on 40 mg prednisolone , and taper everyweek by 5 mg niw its been a week and few days , im on now 35 mg , and i am using asacol 4g enemas nightly .
However , not seeing alot of progress i still go like 6 -8 times ( mostly in the morning like 4-5 times )a day to the bathroom and have some bleeding some days more than others . Should i be much better by now or is it too early to , and if so how long should it take.
Any suggestions on what to use to help . I was thinking of starting colifoam again but using it in alteration with the mesalamine enemas , my theory is that maybe the proctitis is coming back or something .
Should mention this is the first time ive gone on 40 mg steroids usually im put on 30 mg .
I think this might be my last hope , my life is gone , im always in pain , and am very depressed bcs of this disease and am very tired as it has been 4. Years and no remission . Even if i want surgery its difficult cause its only confined to the sigmoid .
Note - am also using mesalazine suppositories in the morning .

It can take several weeks for pred to make a noticeable difference. I'd be cautious about dropping too fast too soon as it'll just be a waste of time.

I have had at least 3-5 flares requiring 4 weeks of higher dose prednisone before tapering that gave me remission. I think 2 of those were after being discharged from the hospital while on IV steroids. Those times I would have been on 50-60 mg for a week then 40x4 weeks. The only time I've been offered a short taper was last year when I had some proctitis symptoms simmering. The plan was 40-30-20-10 but I wasn't feeling better so tapered by 5mg. Before remicade, as you can probably understand, prednisone wasn't holding remission for me. In my experience, it takes me 2-3 weeks at that higher dose to begin to feel better. Week 4 usually a lot better then taper. My flare symptoms are incredibly painful cramps and painful bm's. Blood is a late sign which means I've dropped the ball seeking treatment.
