Breast Cancer Diagnosis

So, I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer. I'm devastated. My UC has been doing so well. It's all new and I don't have too many details right now. Anyone here ever fought cancer and UC at the same time? What questions should I ask of my medical team?

I had my 2nd colonoscopy scheduled for January, so I'm wondering how this will affect that. Doctor was just going to see how things were since I'm close to 6 years after diagnosis.

Sorry that you got bad news because UC alone is quite enough to manage. W/o prior gyn problems or family history of same I somehow got endometrial cancer necessitating major surgery in 2015. The main info I gleaned from this experience is that IBDers are bad candidates for blanket radiation, as that can cause bowel obstruction. So be sure to bring this up to your medical team! I've heard from BC patients that the more advanced treatment centers offer breast isolation radiation, which prevents the rays from striking other parts of one's body; that may be a possibility if you need adjuvant radiation. Try to inform yourself about best practices available for your stage of malignancy; if caught early you can learn to manage your treatment well, with minimal disruption to your normal routine. So sorry to hear this but you are young and I am sure you will have a full recovery.

I don't see vitamin D in your signature. Not only is it beneficial for UC but there is a lot of research on its effectiveness against breast cancer. Here is an interview with a breast cancer survivor who discusses how vit D can help prevent relapse of breast cancer.

i once read a similar post on the Polish uc forum, one woman was diagnosed with pancolitis 2 yrs ago (which was many yrs after her mastectomy). She had to repeat the chemo just after the uc diagnosis, but fortunately it didn't affect her uc at all, quite contrary, her colon has been absolutely ok up to now (she's off the meds) since the treatment. After all these ups and downs, she's doing really very well. I keeps my fingers crossed that everything will be ok with you and the cancer will never return

Oh so sorry to hear this and wish you the best. My wife was diagnosed with BC back in Feb. She was Stage 2. no lymphnods were affected. Did chemo, double mastectomy because she has dense breasts and didnt want the chance of cancer in the other one in the future. She did chemo first, then surgery. Then had a hematoma 7 days after her mastectomy and had to go in for emergency surgery to fix that. Has tissue expanders and fills, just got done with radiation. My god its been hell. Still has to have another surgery to change out expanders and put in the implants. Shes 43. Sorry don't mean to scare you with all this stuff everyone's situation is different.
