Advice on C-diff diagnosis?

I caught C-diff during my hospitalization last week. I was told it was "early colonization" and a few doctors said they wouldn't even have treated me for it but I was already in the hospital so the other doctors thought I should. I have only had antibiotics twice in the last few years but I have had horrible reactions and the last one sent me into this flare. I am having constant diarrhea that is bright orange. I don't know if that's the C-diff or the antibiotic. I'd love to hear any experiences with C-diff especially early ones.

On a side note the more diarrhea the more the stomach cramping which leads to pretty constant pain. Anything I can do about that?

What medicine are they using to treat you? Usually they skip Flagyl and start with Vanco for IBD patients.

They did a couple rounds of flagyl in the hospital but stopped because of the diarrhea since they decided it was overkill given my recent "colonization". They decided vanco was enough so I'm on that 4x/day.

I too caught hospital aquired c-diff. I was home about 24 hours before becoming symptomatic and thought I was flaring because of the cramping. The major difference was how horrible my poop smelled. Awful, awful smell and copious amounts of poop. I had to be re-admitted because my potassium was 2.7 after two days of the poops. I was given flagyl and vanco and stayed about 4-5 days. I had really bad rectal pain which turned out to be untreated proctitis.

I've had vanco for c diff twice. It didn't bother my uc but I was flaring already when diagnosed. I took 250 mg 4x a day for 10 days.

It helped and killed the c diff. Yes the bright orange/yellow d is part of c diff. As well as the terrible smell like platinum said.

I'm the same as you. Usually have issues with abx but vanco has been one to never make things worse.

Have you tried bentyl for the cramping? Usually 20 mg will do the trick. Your colon is spasming and it's an anti spasmodic. I use it for uc and ibs symptoms as well.

ETA- I always up my probiotics when on abx especially with c diff and add florastor for the duration and like a week after. Vanco can't kill florastor strain.

So many people seem vulnerable to catching this in hospital, which is devasting especially when you are already having to deal with UC. My experience with C Difficile is that stools tend to be totally unformed, smelly, and an odd colour. Vanco seems to work well for most people.

I was treated with vancomycin for 10 days 2 weeks ago for c diff. Which I think I acquired after being on levaquin for 8 days. While on vancomycin my UC got worse, all bloody BM. I lost about 30lbs in those 10 days. After vancomycin less boss, still diarrhea, less frequency. Stools weren't formed, but not loose, and hurt like crazy. I had a flex sig. Sig showed moderate to severe colitis. Retested for c diff. Came back negative last Wednesday. Pain too severe Wednesday night, early Thursday morning came to the emergency room. Retested for c diff. Came back positive. Currently treated with flagyl. I believe today is day 5, and slight improvement.

Ditto---caught it in hospital. Flagyl and patience cleared it up.

I'm assuming you were home for xmas?
