So I finally got to see an Internist, dr had me thinking I'd see a GI but hey ho. Surprise, surprise he didn't get all the info from my GP and the general surgeon but did have the report from 1 of my CT scans which said something about colitis on the left side. After asking a ton of questions he finally decided that he didn't agree with the diagnosis of UC and it's probably just IBS or at a stretch celiac disease..... Last time I saw the general surgeon he told me that the biopsy confirmed UC, he stated the first time I saw him that there was inflammation and ulceration and he was certain it would be UC. So this guy is now trying to tell me that the general surgeon, the pathologist and even the radiologist who went over imaging is wrong! He's ordered blood tests to cover autoimmunes of almost every kind, thyroid issues, heart disease, deficiencies and whatever else so he's covering his ass on this.
What really got me was he told me that if I had UC there would always be a lot of blood and since I haven't had very much visible blood, almost none to be honest, I can't have UC! Is this guy some kind of idiot or am I missing something big?

So.....sounds weird and confusing. Did you get a copy of the pathology results from the colonoscopy biopsies?

I'm going to ask for copies of everything from the docs. The general surgeon doesn't seem to like to share with anyone else. I haven't been getting out much lately as I was given lyrics for my joint pain which my GP said is arthritis due to the UC but this guy today even argued with that! I'm not taking tonight or tomorrow morning until after I've had my blood taken that way I can also drive around asking for everything. I'll definitely come back with the results also it may be a little garbled

That will be a huge asset for you to have. You need to know the results, do the research and go from there. Just so you know that results from biopsies of UC and maybe CD are consistent with based on criteria...it's usually a diagnosis after exclusions. Some things can mimic, so there might be other options for diagnosis.

If you were celiac, it wouldn't cause inflammation or ulceration in the rectum/colon. Ulcers is a different thing than ulcerations as in UC...friability.

Hope you can get an answer, at least you'll have the results. As well, make sure the bloods, etc results copies are had as well.

Regarding the bleeding.....well, inflammation happens in increments. It doesnt9just one day show up and be full blown bleeding. For me, it took almost 3 years....then my doc at the time took me more seriously (well, at least for more testing but still insisted it was hemmorrhoids)

Once you have your complete records, it is much easier to get a second opinion from another doctor (hopefully a good gasteroenterologist). And that might be the best thing to do in your case.

you can have UC with D and mucus and likely bits of blood. It does not require a lot of blood.

It is true that blood is what usually distinguishes IDB form IBS. All pathology can do is confirm crypt cell deformation due to chronic inflammation. Other tests need to be used to rule out infection and things like celiac before UC can be concluded based on chronic inflammation.

There is a middle ground where all these things are true and the Internist does not have to be an idiot. Also, like you said he did not get complete records.
