Has your biopsy ever come back with slight abnormal cells?

First off the doctor said 3 times there was absolutely no evidence of cancer or pre cancerous changes, and no evidence of cancer at all. He wants a repeat scope in a year.
When I looked up his term of some slight a typical cell changes in one section, mayo clinic said many times it's caused by inflammation and or infection. There was a polyp, but it was an inflammation polyp and nothing to do with cancer.
Good news is when I was scoped in 2011 I had moderate pancolitis. This last scope was only mild and the polyp he found was an inflammatory polyp.
So, are the changes all inflammation then, or am I in a waiting game for something pre cancerous to show up and I lose my colon?

I don't, but I have to call to schedule an appointment to find out. My mom is a RN in the ICU and she said it is probably inflammation changes because if it was something scary, he would have wanted to check it much sooner. In the results he just said we will re check it in a year. He says if you want to look anything up, then go to the mayo clinic site since that is who he is through, and mayo said those cells are usually caused by inflammation or infection. I was pretty sick with UC over the summer, which is why I went back to the GI and he scheduled a scope.
And yeah, we're in a waiting game. Sigh. I've already decided if anything scary comes up at all, then I am done. Ostomy bags come in fashionable colors. I have a 3 and 11 year old I want to watch grow up, and I've seen a few posts of people getting a J pouch and cancer comes back in what's left of their rectum.

Oh, and yes, the polyp was removed and tested. The report came back that it was a polyp caused by inflammation. The rest of the findings were inflammation throughout the colon.
Once I go back, I will ask him. He's probably going to put me on pills and tell me to take my rectal meds every day.
I take a 5asa rectal med once in a while. I didn't take anything until I relapsed this last year. That was a bad flare, but it was pretty short lived.
My GI said that the metforim may have aggravated my colon, but the extended release is easier on my colon, so I take the extended release metforim.

Looking weird doesn't mean anything, other than being interesting to look at under a microscope. When cells grow in a hostile, constantly inflammed environment they have odd looking adaptations. They have thicker cell walls, weird gaps between cells, and generally look unusual under a microscope.

If it was cancerous or precancerous then that's another thing entirely but it's not. Your biopsy report would've noted dysplasia (precancerous cells).

Inflammation can eventually become cancer over long periods of time. Treat the inflammation with your prescribed meds. Tame the inflammation with then and stay on your meds during remission as a maintenance treat.
