I used rowasa nightly for over 2 years, they are 5ASA/mesalamine (like lialda/asacol) and perfectly fine for indefinite maintenance use. Some, not all, can reduce frequency and discontinue after time. Really depends on how bad your inflammation is.
Steroid enemas, like Cortenema, are good for about 2 month use. They're not meant for longterm usage as they can thin the bowel wall and cause side effects like prednisone can. After the 2 month period, they can be used infrequently on an as needed basis (for blips in symptoms).
