Hello,

I've been taking Imuran for about 6 years or so. Recently within the last couple of years I've noticed a few plantars warts here and there on my feet. I've treated them as needed. Recently I've noticed flat warts on the back of my hands and they are spreading. Has anyone had any experience with Imuran and warts at all? I'm a recently separated guy so as you can imagine I've had added stress which never helps the immune system but also being newly single do not want to deal with warts. Any suggestions? Experiences? I'm curious if my only option is to get off of the imuran. I currently take 50mg per day.

I had a lot of plantar warts when on prednisone, remicade and 6MP (a sister med to imuran). I did beat them but being triple immune supressed it did take plenty of bottles of compound w, persistence and a series of months to win. It should be easier for you if you're only on the imuran. There's no reason to come off of imuran.

Thanks. I have had plantars warts on and off for several years now. I'm also starting to get flat warts on my hands. It's discouraging. I'm not sure if my immune system is that low or if there's a way to treat these without stopping imuran. I don't want my self esteem to be non existent also. So frustrating.

Yes, you can ask for Aldara......it's expensive, but might be a better option than freezing them off.

Would that work while on imuran quincy? Have you had experience? It's something I'll look into. Thank you

No experience except once my dermatologist gave me a sample for a plantar wart. It was a stubborn one and i had to have it frozen bigtime for it to finally cease to exist.

There is a topical type of liquid as well that my new dermatologist has used. It blisters and then slowly disappears.....without a larger area of discoloration.

When I was younger I had 13 warts over a few years cut out that were on my hands. Not such a nice experience....but they never grew back.
Removal isnt something they do nowadays.

I just want off of this imuran so bad. I've been ill all winter. Now have these warts. It's really starting to affect my psyche

Getting off of imuran would be a horrible idea. If there's one thing UC taught me it's to be a whole lot less into vanity, due to rapid weight gain and loss, skin issues, and plantar warts. I had 40 plantar warts total on my feet at one point. Now i have none.

What's more important to have your UC under control and have warts, or a few less warts and in a flare because you stopped imuran? I'd recommend staying on imuran, see a dermatologist to get them frozen, and continue with compound w for a few months. Revisit the dermatologist again, as warts can be darn stubborn.

Thank you John. I appreciate your feedback. I'm not really a vain person, but my self esteem had likely taken a hit with a separation and all. The stress likely hurts my immune system as well. I guess I'm noticing the little things I used to ignore is all. Trying to keep my head up

I'm sorry about the separation. Just try and stay positive. Sometimes things like that happen for a reason, and you end up finding the person you were meant to be with. We don't always get it right the first time hehe. We all struggle sometimes but don't worry there's always a bright future ahead.

That's ok. I'm turning a corner. I'm trying to take a good look at myself and my health and where I want to be. These warts are just a daily reminder I'm not there yet. They really bother me more than the l they should but they do. I want to get back to being a fit active and healthy guy so I have something great to offer someone. Colitis has been decent considering, i just feel like maybe the imuran is helping that and hurting other parts of me. I can't seem to let this idea go.

Not yet quincy but I'll be asking for a referral. This is fairly recent.

Best to deal with them ASAP so they don't keep sprouting.
