Hey all! First time posting a topic! Short background....I have been dealing with a mild flare since the end of December. Mostly mucus, urgency, dull ache and pressure in rectum, and some tenesmus. My maintenance meds are 3 Lialda a day. Since this flare, I have been on prednisone, which helped with the symptoms, and after tapering off the pred, my doc had me start Canasa supps 1 a day(which I've never had to use). I feel like they're helping, as all my symptoms feel like they're right in my rectum, which is odd considering my UC is left sided and 25 cm in.
Anyhow, I had a suspicion that my Lialda was irritating and making my symptoms worse, so I decided to just stop taking it to see if I notic d a difference. This is day 4 of no Lialda and I definitely feel like my symptoms aren't as bad. I had been experimenting with this a little before taking canasa (taking 2/day, 1/day), and felt like I noticed a difference then too. Is it possible that Lialda can not only just stop working, but suddenly make symptoms worse?? Am I being too reckless by not continuing to take my Lialda???
Also, does anyone know if it's possible to be in remission still in one area of the colon, and be flaring in another? I'm afraid I may now have proctitis in addition to my left sided UC, but that maybe my flare is only happening in the rectum, since my symptoms have not been nearly as bad as they were when I was first diagnosed. I'm afraid that if I do now have proctitis that is irritated by Lialda, I may cause my left sided UC to flare from not taking it. Does any of this make sense?? Ugh....I'm just freaking over it! My brain is exhausted from constantly trying to figure this stuff out....what's causing, what's helping, should I eat this or that, , should I take this or not????!!!!! 😡
