I posted earlier about my colonoscopy results. I have zero symptoms (one formed BM per day) but colonoscopy showed mild inflammation throughout my colon. Dr wants me to try either Humira or Entyvio. I'm so torn about what to do. I feel good right now and I'm afraid that if I start a new med I'll start to really flare. I'm afraid of the side effects of Humira and Entyvio. I'm afraid of not doing anything to treat the inflammation.

 My husband suggested seeing a natural dr first and doing another colonoscopy in 6 months to see if anything has changed with regard to the inflammation.

 Thoughts on what I should do?
I'm making myself crazy thinking about all the what ifs!

You can try anti-inflammatory foods, maybe tummeric, and tweak probiotics.

But, how would you know if it worked on the inflammation? How would you know if Humira/Entyevo worked? SInce you have no symptoms, you would need another scope.

Maybe get a blood or stool inflammation test and then try adding foods and supplements, then get blood/stool test repeated in 6 months.

Thanks DBwithUC, I'm going to look into the tumeric. Dr said he wanted a repeat scope in 6 months to tell if new meds are working but I like your blood test ide!

Why'd you stop the imuran? In your situation, I'd use imuran or 6MP (should you be able to tolerate them)

Ipoop, Imuran lowered my WBC count to almost zero and I caught a nasty bug. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks. They never figured out what it was, I just started to get better. I'll look into 6mp but I don't want to go on Imuran again.

Imuran metabolizes into 6MP within the body. Sister meds. Pretty scary on the WBCs.

Thanks iPoop! Yeah, it was scary. The funny part was that Imuran kept me in a solid remission the entire time. I was very ill but had near perfect poops!

How about a low dose of imuran or 6-mp?

So you have mild inflammation with no symptoms? How mild is the "mild inflammation"?

I understand the risks with inflammation but why do you need to go on a biological? Wouldn't you rather hold off on those until you really need it?

I'd try tweaking your other meds before you consider the biologicals. And if you're going to start then start with the best which is Remicade.

Ks1905, I'm just too scared to try imuran again. The dr said I might have to go on a very low dose of 6mp with the biologic. The pathology report says 70 cm of mild activity. I'm already on the max dose of Lialda and take Rowasa every night (plus a probiotic, plus newly added tumeric supplement) so I don't know what more could be added without switching meds? My Dr is concerned because I wasn't having symptoms (I am now) so there is no way to know how long the inflammation has been there. I would rather hold off before switching meds but I'm not sure what more to try. Even if the D stops, there would be no way for me to know if the inflammation is still there. *sigh*

I believe you have to add newer and stronger meds, you're very hesitant to, and that's only going to make you suffer more with UC symptoms as a consequence thereof.

I did the same thing (said no to 6MP when my doctor first recommended it) 4 years back and had my worst flare ever. Should have taken it. Inflammation won't majically get better when you change nothing. Rather, it simmers and simmers which causes it to both spread and get more severe. Inaction has consequences.

I know you're hoping for a bunch of don't take imuran or biologics posts to backup your thinking, but i don't think that's best. I'd take just a biologic (leaveout the inuran or 6MP given your past reaction).
