Reaction to med or sick?

If you have mid stomach cramps for 3 days and been sick on day 1 how would you know if it was a reaction to salofalk enemas(taken 2 x weekly for 6 weeks ) or reaction to macrogol (taken for 10 years with no problems) or simply a g.i. Virus. Also my doctor said I require no blood tests when only on salofalk. Is anyone the same. Was previously on azaththioprine for 12 years but doctor said because I was in remission I should try life without them.

Why are you taking the macrogol for 10 years?

Explain being sick for one day....what symptoms?

was your only treatment 12 enemas and a regular laxative? Why did you begin the enemas 6 weeks ago?

You may have a reaction to one of the ingredients in the salofalk which blood tests wouldn't show since it is generally topical, not much if any gets in bloodstream. It could be the preservative or the mesalamine and hard to know which if you don't have access to the sulfite-free version called Rowasa SF (in US, and not easy to get here).

If you ever took a UC oral med that has mesalamine in it and had no reaction then it's obviously not the mesalamine.

You can't tell based on what you described. You'd have to reintroduce things one at a time to see if you get the same reaction. Otherwise stomach bug, we can get those too.

I have not taken Salofalk for 4 nights but still getting stomach cramps. No longer diarrhoea or vomiting. Would Salofalk be out of my system by now and so more likely to be a stomach bug? I guess I am just very anxious with doctor changing my meds. Background 35 years of having UC. 1st 10 good on sulphalazine, next 13 regular bad flare ups trying all types of meds until put on azathioprine about 12 years ago .Worked a dream but doctor took me off 2 months ago because of long term side effects and I was in remission for so long and started Salofalk twice weekly for ongoing maintenance therapy. I take macrogol as prone to impacted faeces which in past had stopped meds working and caused flare ups apparently . I guess I just have to stop being anxious and worrying that everything is a flare up starting as that is more likely to cause one.

Yes salofalk would be out of your system in 48 hours or less. It's a 90 percent topical medication and the bulk is actually out within 24 hours.

I do not believe it is the salofalk. I'd wager you have something else going on.
