Steroid refractive

I've never heard that being older and steroid refractory increases one's CRC odds. I'm actually quite skeptical on it. Do you have a link to that source?

The prognosis varies a lot person to person, uc can be unpredictable. Sometimes the mildest case of ulcerative proctitis necessitates colectomy. Generally pancolitis cases are more prone to needing a colectomy than proctosigmoiditis or proctitis. However there are pancolitis patients who have stable and mild mannered cases that require minimal treatment.

Colectomy due to colorectal cancer is a lot less likely for you due to contracting UC at age 50. The longer you've had UC the greater the odds of CRC (so those who got UC in their teens and are now 50 would have much higher odds of CRC).

Remember my bit about uc prognosis being wildly unpredictable? That's what we all face a great unknown. Much like a poker game, you don't know what cards you'll be dealt beforehand but we all must put on a confident face. Same with UC, some of us get an easy time, others have a moderate struggle, some of us have an extremely difficult case. Unknown at our beginning as only time will tell.

I will get the research article after work. It was a 2016 article measuring the effectiveness of ifliximab and its long term outcomes. I think the theory is that if you have had a shorter period of time with intense disease your likelihood to have a CRC is greater then someone whom has been effectively been able to battle it for years with the assistance of steroids. My presumption is if IFX became ineffective i don't have a stop gap measure to reduce the inflamation when it returns. Perhaps, it was only in my state last month that the prednisone was ineffective, although i presumed once ineffective it would always be so.
I understand that i should be extremely grateful that he IFX was very effective and i am feeling so well compared to my earlier condition last month, however, peering into the future is hard for me to not do.

Below is the research i was referring to. It suggests that the older you are and the quicker your symptoms turn to the requirement for salvage therapy the worse your ability is to maintain long term remission with IFX. But hey, it is only research and i am feeling good!! Going for a flexsig on Thursday and looking forward to hearing as good as news as i am feeling!!

I am steroid refractive...sometimes. There have been flares where it works and others when it doesn't. I am usually sent to the er for cyclosporine over 3-5 days in patient in the hospital. I've had one flare since starting remicade and it was shorter than others. I'm almost 2 years on remicade and it's been by far and large a success. My last colonoscopy showed remission and that was almost s year ago. I do think the combo of remicade and imuran is helping.

It is perfectly normal to still have inflammation and healing when you start remicade. You've only been on it a month and it sounds like your results are great. It takes some people at least 4 doses to see the full result, and others it can take up to a year. For me, it took about 9 months to completely heal. You may have some setbacks but 90% is huge for only one month.

I appreciate the positive reinforcement. There really is nowhere else i can go. I hate to say it but my sense is that after a really positive result with remicade after 6 weeks i must have low trough levels because symptoms like frequency and small amounts of blood have returned. I hope my GI will allow to convince him to expedite another infusion. I have been told that when the colitis is severe like mine that it is not uncommon to infuse within a few weeks of the induction infusions. I know i seem like a newbie, who is big baby.

Thanks I emailed my doctor and will get one this week. On a different note after my endoscope and sigmoid on Thursday i starting having strange intermittent nausea that lasts for approximately an hour and then goes away a few times a day. I have never had this nausea prior. Would it most likely be as result of the scope or the return of some colitis symptoms? It could be the remade but why now?

The issue i have with it being related to a flare up is that i never had nausea when i had a major flare up before and it seems to be coincidental that i was in the hospital for a procedure the day nausea comes along.
