Awaiting biopsy results/diagnosis - still in pain

Hello all.

I had my first colonoscopy a couple days ago after a month of diarrhea and about 2 weeks of sharp, burning pain in my rectum. Lots of bright, red blood in the toilet the last couple days put me on the fast-track for the procedure. They ended up finding two ulcers and a fissure in my rectum. I'm 31 and have never had any digestive issues like this in the past. I immediately began researching and came across this forum.

Anyway, I'm still bleeding and it still really hurts. Blood tests and stool analysis showed nothing abnormal, so I assume bacteria is not the cause. I was really hoping it'd be an easy fix, but I'm starting to realize I probably have UC and this is just the beginning sad.

Do these ulcers ever heal? Why is this happening? Nobody seems to know for sure, it's just something that is. Sigh.

Two solitary ulcers plus inflammation and bleeding from that inflammation or bleeding from those ulcers?

When do you get results from biopsies?

the pain is almost surely mostly from fissure. fissure do heal.

ulcers may be very limited area of UC inflammation. it can be managed, and inflammation goes away, but relapse is possible because they immune system has learned to attack your own body. there is no good way to "erase" things the immune system learns.

lets hope for mild symptoms, limited area of inflammation, and long periods of remission

Bleeding from the ulcers. The report they printed out and gave me said:

"2 3-5mm cratered ulcers were found in the distal rectum. These were distinct from the anal fissure. Oozing was present due to colonoscope trauma during intubation. Biopsies were taken with cold forceps for histology and viral cultures were taken for CMV, VZV, HPV, and HSV. A localized area of mildly erythematous mucosa was found in the rectum. The exam was otherwise without abnormality. Random biopsies were taken of normal colonic mucosa to the level of the sigmoid colon. The examined portion of the ileum was normal."

Biopsy results should be in sometime this coming week.

I think you're just going to have to be patient and wait for results. Even if it is UC, yes, the uclers do heal, and you can live normally with the right treatment. Try to think positive smile

Were you given any medication?

It doesn't sound like UC since it didn't mention infammation except it being localised and not up to as in measurement of cms. But in saying that....not all docs report the visual in exactly the same wording.

I would suggest you compile a list of questions for when you see your doctor.

Everything hinges on the pathology of the biopsies.
Please let us know the outcome.
