Interesting how, for the most part, the "small govt." "stand on your own 2 feet" voters come from the most dependent states. Dependent states (states that receive more in federal funds than they contribute) vote against their own best interests. Do they realize how much they are helped by the 14 or so donor states(states that contribute more in federal taxes than they receive)? Do they realize that big money from donor states like NY,NJ,CALIF,DEL,CT,ILL,MASS,and TX. is helping them?
It's similar in the UK too; the poorest regions that have been most decimated by years of Tories underfunding have switched from being mainly Labour voters to UKIP/Conservative ones. In our recent local council elections, Labour councils got slaughtered while the Tories cleaned up - there is almost certainly going to be a repeat of this on the 8th June when we have our general election.
In so far as anyone has been able to make out what it's all about
, people are protesting because they don't like Labour. Or, in towns that have a 99.5% white demographic, immigrants. Re the first point, there are many valid reasons to be disillusioned with Labour, but the fact that remains that out of two unpalatable options, Labour is still by
far the best option for the poor - or, if not Labour, then Lib Dem or Greens. Literally anyone except Conservatives or UKIP (lol, joke party is on the way out). If you're poor, on benefits or in a low-paid job, rely heavily on the NHS and other public services, then voting for Tories is like turkeys voting for Christmas. Millions are gonna do it though.
On another note, it frustrates decent middle class people too. I know one guy who works in the NHS, he's been defending it staunchly for years. But he posted today about
how as long as people keep on voting for the Tories but complaining about
waiting times, the more he was thinking about
jacking it in and going to work abroad.
