UC and Mouth Ulcers

Over the years I've noticed that before I flair, I first develop mouth ulcers, I mentioned this to my GI and he told me that there is no relationship between UC and mouth ulcers so it must just be a coincidence.

I've just had my second child and was in remission through out my pregnancy and I didn't get a single mouth ulcer. Since giving birth a few weeks ago ive developed repeated mouth ulcers and surprise surprise, I've now also started to flair.

I'm pretty sure now that it's no coincidence, there is just too much of a direct, repeating relationship between the two. I'm curious if anyone else gets mouth ulcers before getting sick with UC, or if perhaps this is an indication I actually have Crohn's disease? What are your thoughts?

My GI and dentists have all told me that my mouth ulcers are autoimmune and a symptom of UC. I would seriously fire your GI for being ignorant. Freaking google "mouth ulcers and ulcerative colitis", etc. And yes, mouth ulcers can be a symptom of both UC and Crohn's.

When I have the ulcers I use a prescription steroid mouthwash that helps to quell the inflammation and heal them faster. Hopefully you have a doctor or dentist who is treating your mouth ulcers because I know how painful they are. As an aside--mine came on with a vengeance postpartum--like no sooner would one heal then another would pop up. This happened for maybe a year and then I flared very, very badly.

Thanks for your replies, it's reassuring to know that the mouth ulcers are connected to UC and my diagnosis isn't wrong. Google had me confused, some things saying it only affects your colon and with my GIs input I thought I may be the only one experiencing this.

Now I know that they are connected and it's not just a coincidence, I can start up with the enemas as soon as I feel a mouth ulcer coming on, hopefully this will help prevent things getting out of hand.
