Hi everyone
How many mgs should I take for iron since I'm extremely anemia?
I lost my prescript
ion so I was gonna grab over the counter iron.
Thank you

I take a ferrous iron sulfate (65 mg equivalent) tablet twice a day. My doctor said 1-3 so I met in the middle. Your stools may (and should) become very dark, almost black with the iron supplements.

I thought they tend to prefer giving UC sufferers iron infusions rather than oral iron because the excess unabsorbed iron can affect our guts?

It depends on how anemic you are Worried. If anemia can be managed by oral meds than most docs prefer that. But if you are severely anemic than iron infusions are recommended (unless of course you don't have insurance to cover it - than oral can still work but it will take time).
