Nausea induced by Flagyl?

I've had killer nausea on Flagyl. It's been to the point where I can eat. I have vomited. ER GI prescribed 500mg 4 times a day for 14 days. Which is typically for a severe case of C-Diff. Family friend GI and the other ER GI suggested 250mg or 500mg 3 times a day for 10 days. I'm on day 7, and in all honesty I can't take it. I tried Zofran for nausea but it has no affect. Any tips or home remedies to reduce the nausea?

I have a HORRIBLE time on Flagyl. Same as you. The metallic taste in my mouth, combined with the nausea, made it almost impossible for me to eat food. And either the medication itself or the weakness from not eating literally makes me crazy. I get extremely emotional, almost to the point of hysterics. I had to take that evil drug multiple times for my diverticulitis, and that one was of my major reasons for having my partial colectomy -- I never wanted to take Flagyl again, I hate it so much. I did have one doctor tell me I could drop it down to 3 times a day, and I tolerated that much better. But I've had another doctor tell me that it wasn't a full dose so that could be problematic. I've never had C Diff and I know it's bad stuff, and I think Flagy is the drug of choice, so I don't know what to say. Seems like others on here with C Diff might have taken Vancomycin? But I'm not sure, and I don't know what kind of side effects that has.

I always felt terrible on flagyl too - but not as bad as you are dealing with because I managed to get through it and I wasn't vomiting. It's too bad the zofran isn't helping. I think i'd call and ask for a different drug at this point, either something more for nausea, or even better, something other than flagyl.

I get extreme nausea and strong metallic taste in mouth form this abx

Yes, I had a terrible time with Flagyl when I got it RXed for amebiasis decades back, yuck! Keep drinking plenty of plain water to flush it out of your body as quickly as possible. In case of nausea, take a few sips slowly at a time then inhale deeply. See if that will calm your nausea. The only things that helped me were plain water + a little pasta with a very small amount of tomato/basil sauce which covered up the metallic taste left by the med. Good luck & hang in there! It's not you; that's a vile drug to tolerate. / Old Hat (36 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Basically all antibiotics make me sick EXCEPT Flagyl. Headache and very dark urine was the only side effect I had from it. I concur with the advice above about drinking a lot of water - the pharmacist told me that's very important. If you have a lot of nausea, it might make sense to drink rehydration solution rather than water.

I did get a slight upset stomach if I didn't take it with a big enough meal. I know it feels counter-intuitive, but be sure you are taking it with as much food as possible. I don't know if you can tolerate yogurt, but I've always found taking antibiotics with yogurt to be helpful (I think it coats the stomach and protects it from irritation).
