First, just because I don't have a BM one day, does that mean I'm constipated that day? No uncomfortable feelings or need to go, just didn't go? BTW, I've never had D with my UC (and never constipated before UC).
Shortly after my diagnosis and starting Rowasa I started missing my regular once a day BMs (which left an uncomfortable need to go feeling), so I started upping the insoluble fiber in my diet, but that was rough on my system, so I switched to a couple caps of metamucil. For the past 6 weeks or so, I've had pretty normal 1x day BMs (with the exception of C the day my period starts). A couple of weeks ago I switched probiotics and started taking 1/2 packet of VSL#3 which seemed ok after a few days. Last week I started taking a full packet. That seemed to cause an upset stomach and increased gas and another day or two without a BM. I had just discussed tapering the Rowasa with my doc before this, but don't want to do that if the inflammation is coming back for some reason? Could the constipation be from something I ate causing inflammation? Wondering if anyone's constipation has gotten worse from VSL#3 (I've seen other people say their D has gotten worse). Should I increase my fiber intake more? Should I decrease the VSL? Just yesterday (after 1 week of the full packet) it seems to be settling into my system and not creating gas/stomach issues...
