Looking for help - Struggling with flare up and scope booked on friday

Hi All, Looking for some advice. I am in a colitis flare and have been since the weekend I'm not on treatment because the gastroenterologist wants to do a scope to determine whether it is crohns or ulcerative colitis. The reason being that a previous scope showed IBD in March but could not determine which type and he thinks this might of been because i was on prednisolone which would have masked the results. Anyway, I'm booked in for a scope on Friday but struggling to last. The abdominal pain is horrible and I haven't been able to eat since Sunday apart from half a banana last night which has only worsened diarrhea and bleeding this morning 😢 I've got to take moviprep tomorrow night but concerned about taking it because I feel so weak and already have diarrhea and bleeding? Will the moviprep worsen the bleeding / flare. Just wondering if anyone has a similar experience or any tips or advice.

I've been in your shoes before.
My take is that the bowel prep will only worsen a flare (but it doesn't happen to everyone I think) and you have to be on treatment once finish your scope, or it could get worse. I was on a mini flare and it became a moderate one post-scope the last time I did one. The bowel prep did worsen it IMO.

The scope is necessary though for the appropriate course of treatment. You might want to check w your doc if meds will be prescribed after the scope or only when you follow up with him/her for the scope results.

A prep will clean you out but I don't think it'll make your flare worse. Sorry you've got it so rough, I hope a treatment will be given following tomorrow's scope?

You're already flaring...and with some preps, they can exacerbate a flare.
Do take some Gatorade and fluids (no purp,e, blue or red) during the day to keep your electrolytes in check.

Hope the scope shows whatever the doc deems acceptable so that you will be on meds to help get you on a healing track.

Keep in contact tomorrow and after the scope.

Thanks UCdude, iPoop and Quincy. It is reassuring to know I'm not alone.

Yes I'm hoping treatment will be given following the scope because I can't go on like this. I have got prednisolone enemas in the house but he's told me I absolutely should not take them before the scope 😔

Keeping my fluids up but everytime I stand up I feel like I'm going to faint, so I'm staying lying down most of the time. Just got to try and last until friday.

Yeah its rough, I would just do what you're doing and stay lying down..let us know how you get on! Best of luck to you.
