First Remicade Infusion Today - Body Aches?

I got my first Remicade infusion today - yay!

So far the only side effect I've noticed is body aches. I started aching during the infusion and the aches have increased since I got home.

Is this a normal side effect? I wasn't able to find much info from googling - everything online seems to talk about joint pain but this is definitely more "body aches." Like what you would get with a fever (but I don't feel fever-ish - on Tylenol).

I had body aches after every infusion for a couple of days & then things seem to settle down. Hang in there hopefully the same will hold true for you. You may want to try some Tylenol & see if that helps.

I've never been on Remicade, but from posts I've read over the years (and personally knowing people who have been on it), it's not uncommon to be achy, or tired, or some combination thereof, for a few hours to even a few days after each infusion.

Hopefully it doesn't get too bad nor last too long. If it does, contact your doctor.

Tylenol is a good suggestion. Sometimes people are given tylenol with each infusion. I've heard of some people getting steroids for a day or two for each infusion. Some people try benadryl too, but that's usually more for a mild allergic-type reaction. Achiness probably doesn't fall in that category.

I was given 1,000 mg of Tylenol and 25 mg of Benadryl as pre-meds. I just took some more Tylenol since my last dose has worn off. Hopefully that helps.

Hey Noodles--I felt crappy after Remicade infusions and Humira shots. With Remicade it was joint pain that never really went away. With Humira it was flu-like symptoms (achy, runny nose, exhausted) for 1-3 days. I wouldn't worry so long as you don't have a fever. Hope you feel better soon!

Nope, no fever! The body aches lasted about 4 days, getting gradually better each day. I was not as fatigued as I was expecting to be with what everyone says about Remicade. All in all, not unhappy with the side effects at this point!

Have my second loading dose this coming Tuesday, hopefully no new/worse side effects after that one smile

I've been on Remicade for a little over two years now. The general fatigue and body aches have never gone away, though I don't really mind them. I generally just schedule infusion days on Monday/Friday and take a sick day at work. The only thing I dislike about Remicade is the constant insomnia, but that seems a fairly rare side effect for people.
