Imaran hair loss HELP

I was put on 50 MG a day imuran for my ulcerative colitis for 3 weeks before before stopping because of hair loss. It's been 3 days and I noice no difference in my hair loss. It's extremely scary and distressing to me but I was wondering if anyone had a similar expierence and when they noticed their hair loss stop after stopping imuran. Thank you so much!!

I'm sorry to see that you had to stop imuran because of hair loss. That's actually a common side effect. Honestly it stopped even when I stayed on imuran. I've been on it several years now and my hair is back to normal. I have very long hair so I notice it when I lose some and in the beginning it was a lot more. I hope you can start imuran again if it helps your colitis. Please try not to worry about the hair loss too much. Again it might just stop on its own. Maybe you can look into supplements or diet also.

As many other threads here about hair loss, hair loss is mostly caused due to the flare not the Imuran. 3 weeks isn't enough for Imuran to get in your system.....it takes a few months to build up in your system.

I don't think that the 3 weeks would have been long enough since the process of hair shedding happens over months., but you won't notice improvement of slowing for at least a month possibly.

What med were you on beforw the Imuran?

Hairloss is a delayed reaction to a UC flare. Flares are darn tough on our bodies, we get malnourished, can be anemic, and low in vitamin B and D. Any of those individually, or cumulatively can cause hairloss.

Regrowth of hair is also a delayed reaction, it will happen once the underlying problems are solved.

Are you anemic? It's semi-common with UC and can cause hairloss.

I 2nd the vitamin B12. my hairloss stopped after I added it. I am on imuran 50mg daily.
