So after some fairly extensive reading, I've 'doctor google' on myself and believe I may have UC. 4 weeks ago I was hospitalized with what I thought at the time was food poisoning, after tests came back all clear UC & chrones were mentioned. Symptoms were severe D with bright red blood (around 25/day) and nausea (leading to vomiting) painful cramps (in tears from pain) unable to eat or drink and very light headed.

Fast forward to last night, I've had almost similar symptoms perhaps at a level about 80% of last time. I've toughed it out but very nauseated still have just been given a wafer to calm that down. Told to go to ER if things dont get better.

Booked in for a colonoscopy in 10 days. No family history, and my doc was confused with the vomiting and nausea?is this a normal thing for UC? Thanks feeling anxious and worried and still very ill.

Welcome to the forum but sorry you're suffering from bowel issues as we are. It's possible you have UC and possible you do not and only a doctor can diagnose with the appropriate diagnostic tests. Certainly blood in stool is worthy of further investigation by a gasteroenterologist-specialist. A diagnosis involves three test results. First, you should have a stool test to rule out pathogenic causes for things like clostridium difficile (UC requires a negative for this test). Good you have a colonoscopy scheduled as that visual inspection is the 2nd test and the biopsy results that follow are the 3rd. If all the diagnostics point to UC then you have it.

Yes, nausea is a UC flare symptom that occurs for some of us. Like pooping isn't enough, we instead have stuff coming out both sides... ugh.
