Lialda's Manufacturer To Release Generic

I've been worried over the insurance company switching my son to Zydus' generic version of Lialda and in doing research came across this that say the Shire (the maker of Lialda) will release their own generic which I imagine will be identical to the name brand.

I hope this happens quickly! And I hope it's easy to acquire.

Does this mean the price will go down? For some people maybe not. When generic Evista and Celebrex became available the high price to some patients stayed the same. The difference was that insurance now did not over the brand, only the generic. This may not be what usually happens and may depend on the insurance company, manufacturer and other factors. We'll see.

The first generic is less than $20 cheaper total list price, but there's a number of other generics soon to be released and I hope that's when competition brings the total cost down substatially. Right now, most insurance plans have a smaller generic copay at least.
