I always had a private room and TV, but not too many channels unfortunately. I hope you get good news, it would be nice if you didn't need to have surgery, but i know you feel like it's coming at some point in the future, either now or later, so perhaps now is the best plan. You just have to realistic that after surgery you will use the bathroom more and deal with a host of issues you're not used to. I have a lot of noises when I go to the bathroom, it can be embarrassing, especially in public restrooms. I can avoid going in public restrooms often, but sometimes you feel like, you're in there, so you might as well, and it can be noisy. I use more TP than I used to, and I suffer if I eat spicy foods. I love spice too, so it's a bummer. The anal area can get upset pretty easily. I keep cream in my medicine cabinet. However, I don't take drugs. I don't go to doctors. I don't need monitoring. I don't spend money on those things. I don't avoid certain foods (aside from very hot peppers). I don't worry about flare ups. there are pros and cons for sure.
I'm pretty much the same as NSSG but I need to take medicine for chronic pouchitis. It's not that bad and is more manageable than UC.
At NYP Cornell CR surgery you'll get the top floor of the hospital if there is space available. They are all private rooms but if you get a room on the East side of the 14th then you'll get to see all the boats going up the East River. It's a great view. You'll spend a lot of time sleeping and recovering. I swear that my uncle came by to visit for a 2nd time just to watch the tug boats.
Dr. Shukla was a very nice guy. More friendly than my surgeon.
The hospital is great.
