Hi,

Just wondering has anyone found these tablets useful. I've been on them for 3 weeks and if anything it has made my stools more loose. I am also wondering why the doctor prescribed me these tablets to put me back into remission when I have had success with Deltacortril tablets before. He said cortiment directly targets the bowel and thus less side effects on the whole body but I hadn't experienced any noteworthy side effects on the deltacortril and these cortiment tablets are having no positive impact whatsoever.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Cortiment (also known as uceris or clipper) is a budesonide-based steroid with a delayed-release coating just like asacol/mezavant/pentasa has. Budesonide plus the delayed-release coating makes the steroid 90 percent topical and only 10 percent systematic. Whereas Deltacortril/prednisone/Prednisolone is a 100 percent systematic steroid, and it's that systematic component that causes the majority of the side effects we all know and loathe.

Thanks very much for getting in touch, do you know if the tablets should have had an impact after 3 weeks? Also, if I want to go off the tablets, do I have to taper off them or can I just give them up, thanks.

Yes, 3 weeks in you should see an improvement, if not call your doctor and tell him/her that you need something stronger. For example, Deltacortril can be used as it's much more powerful.

There's no tapering needed with Cortiment. Once you're done, you're done.
