I am new to this forum, but felt compelled to write about my experience. Three months ago I was prescribed meloxicam for osteoarthritis in my hip. Within three days, all of my UC symptoms vanished. I have been persistently bleeding , mild to moderate flares, for 16 years. Today, my stool looks like I have never had the Diagnosis. I had a colonoscopy appox. one month after starting the medication and was told for the first time in 16 years, I had no irritation. I am a nurse and work closely with a pharmacist. I relayed my experience and amazement. After looking into it, she said it may be a positive side effect because it is a cox 2 inhibitor that works within the gut., as opposed to a nsaid, which is cox 1 and 2. I have had such a life changing experience I have pressed my GI doc to begin his own study. I have come across many people in this forum that are fearful of taking meloxicam, I would try it! I have been able to reduce my Lialda to 2 tablets and it is only a fear of the unknown that keeps me from stopping altogether. I have plans on doing so.. I will post updates. All medications have side effects, but they may also be positive ones. God Bless. Don't stop trying.
