Diarrhea after colonoscopy? Help! Please!

Hi guys I had a colonoscopy about 9 days ago and suffer from now bloating cramping and mild diarrhea. Mind you before the colonoscopy my stools were perfectly fine, I had not had a flare in 3 years. I don't know if the colonoscopy triggered a flare or what's going on but I'm scared and would like some answers. Thank you

Have your stool tested for a clostridium difficile infection. If you have one then they can give you medications to clear it up and stop the symptoms.

Yes thank you for the idea. maybe I'll test for any bacterial infections in the stool just to rule that out because it could be a coincidence I got infected and I just started having symptoms right after my colonoscopy. Although I have heard people with UC tend to flare up after a colonoscopy. I'm just a little worried it could be a flare and is it normal after a colonoscopy? Did anyone else have this issue? And if so how long before it went away.

I was deep into remission when I decided that I needed a colonoscopy since it had been some time since my last one. Soon I started having diahrrea again.

But when I looked at the ingredients of the prep I saw junk like maltodextrin, polisorbate 80, and other of my sure-fire triggers for inflammation. After a few days of my mainstay, powdered psyllium seed, I was back to normal.

Some have flared as a consequence of having a colonoscopy (rare but happens). Some have gotten C diff from the hospital facility (not common but can happen).

Just go through the standard flare protocol and see what is the cause: contact your gasteroenteroligist to let him/her know of your worsened symptoms, request a stool test to look for pathogenic causes, and assess the level of inflammation you are contending with (via one or more of your choice of the following a CRP blood test, a FCP stool test, or a scope like a flexible-sigmoidoscopy).

Not sure of your meds and dosages, but some of the veterans will temporarily increase their med dosage (like go from 2,400mgs of oral mesalamine to 4,800mgs, and take Rowasa enema nightly if not already).

Yes thank you for all the feedback, I will run the powder by my doctor and see if it's ok to add in and request a stool test just to rule out any infection. After my colonoscopy he(the Dr.) said I was almost in remission. Now I'm feeling like what seems like the start to a flare and it sucks. Will try all the suggestions. Thank you!

I'm currently 23 and was diagnosed 4 years ago with pancolitis and put on the max dosage of lialda mesalamine which is 4 pills a day and have not stopped taking it, I've had no issue with it at all. I was also recently diagnosed with gastritis and irritation of the duodenum and put on Pepcid 40mg twice a day. That's a whole other story. I take a probiotic every day and I'm iron deficient and I take iron from time to time. That's just a bit of my meds and history.
