I’d like to thank everyone for sharing their stories on this forum. It’s been a place of comfort for me to know I’m not alone in fighting the daily struggle of Ulcerative Colitis.
I was diagnosed 3 years ago and have been through many medications including Remicade, Entyvio, Prednisone etc. Nothing seemed to help. I became very frustrated with my doctor who kept changing my medications and suggesting I try to join upcoming clinical studies to find a drug that works for me. I have read a lot about
surgery, but was truly hoping for another solution.
My Doctor suggested we try Stelara for my UC. It is not FDA approved for UC, but it is approved for Chron’s. I had my initial infusion of Stelara and my symptoms quickly subsided. No blood in my stool, no urgency to go, not going to the bathroom 15 times per day. Stelara is to be taken every 8 weeks, however for me after 4 weeks all my symptoms returned. My doctor fought with my insurance company and got me approved for a monthly dosage. I am now 4 months on Stelara and am feeling healthy and most importantly showing no symptoms.
Stay positive, keep trying. The more i learn about
this disease the more it seems that we are all unique and respond to different treatments.
