Does anyone take a natural supplement they feel really helps elevate their mood to make them more happy?
I think being sick along with this illness has got me in the dumps, matter of fact it has!! I lay in bed for hours and sleep for hours and I feel down a lot!!
Please reply if you think natural supplements work and what does work. I tried DHEA and that doesn't help. I like to try a natural supplement before a prescript
ion. I tried Lexapro it helped with anxiety, but didn't make me "happy"
Thanks

I saw some http-5 (or something like that) at costco that was supposed to be a mood booster. I never tried it though. I'm taking generic Zoloft. It doesn't make you "happy" it just takes away the feeling sad for no reason. It will make you feel blah for awhile until your body adjusts but only for a couple weeks maybe.

As FlowersGal said 5-HTP favorably influences the serotonin pathway.
Lemon balm
has been shown to exert a calming effect in healthy individuals and some say it helps with UC.
L-theanine
which is found exclusively in tea, has been shown to soothe anxiety, without side effects.
Vitamin D and fish oil are also found to be effective for depression. Everyone with UC should get their vitamin D levels checked because it also helps with IBD. If you finally decide to go the antidepressant route then Wellbutrin is one drug that doesn't kill your sex drive and there are some posts here where some have said it helps with UC.
