Lialda + Cold and I'm back to where I started

I started taking Lialda (2 a day about 3 months) and it was actually working pretty well to the point I started feeling normal. Eating almost normal foods and enjoying it without running to the bathroom anymore. The primary side effect was abdominal swelling and gaining about 7 lbs in a relatively short amount of time. While that was concerning, I was happy I my BM's had slowed down.

Anyway, I caught my daughters (2 day cold for her) cold last week and it's developed into my lungs and I feel bad 7 days later. In addition, the Lialda has stopped working completely. I put a call into my Dr. but of course I haven't heard back and probably won't until tonight or tomorrow.

Has anyone had a similar experience with this type of situation? It sucks coughing and crapping at the same time. UGH!

You can probably increase the dose and/or add rectal meds and get things back in order. Try not to stress, there are a lot of options. I am sure your dr will get in touch soon. There's also Uceris if it's warranted.

I'd ask your gasteroenteroligist about upping your Lialda to 4 a day, and adding a nightly prescription Rowasa retention enema. I hope you feel better soon!

It's not that Lialda stopped working.....its because you are undertreated. Lialda won't treat the rectum.....UC starts there, and does need to be treated there contrary to some thoughts about meds.

Ask for Rowasa 4g dosage retention mesalamine enemas!

You can deal with the chest congestion with expectorant and sudafed....unless it's green, then you may need antibiotics should it continue.
