PLAQUENIL for Drug Induced lupus?

Has anyone used PLAQUENIL?

My GI doc is recommending it to treat the severe joint pain and swelling I am dealing with from my Drug Induced Lupus. He says it should allow me to come off the prednisone more quickly.

What I read online seems to indicate it may be a good solution, but would love to hear anyone else's experience with this medication when used for lupus control.

I've read that quinine meds are used for pain and associated swelling. My SIL and a few others I know are using it. There are side effects, as there are with other meds. It doesn't seem my SIL is experiencing any side effects. She's been on it for a few years, although not for Lupus. I hope it works for you.

KCFly, I too had drug induced Lupus while on Remicade. After developing antibodies to it, I switched to Humira & had the same situation. I was dx'd after being sent to a rheumatologist. I was put on Plaquenil & had no issues. You will need to be monitored while on this medication.

I have been on Plaquenil for 2 years for lupus (systemic not drug induced) and it has worked well for me. You need to see an ophthalmologist prior to starting to develop a baseline on your retina function and depending on how long you remain on it, will need to follow up annually to check for retina damage. I weaned off pred over a 4 month period while waiting for the Plaquenil to kick in.
