Hi everyone -

Tomorrow is the day! It feels weird to be going in for surgery because I feel so great! But this is all about dysplasia, not about uncontrolled UC.

I will post when I can! My chief concern, actually, is my elderly mother (91) whose health seems to be slipping at the moment. I am usually her coach and chauffeur, but obviously I can't do a thing for her at the moment or for... how long? She often semi-panics when I am away for any reason, so I did her grocery shopping this morning and visited with her.

Anyway, off I go into a new world! smile

Good luck tomorrow. I posted to you in your other thread. Don't forget chapstick, my lips are always so dry in the hospital.

5-7 days in the hospital. You should be walking around pretty well by the time that you leave. The one thing that you’ll need to Worry about when helping your mother is lifting something too heavy and too high, there will be an increased risk of a hurnia for the first few months.

I’d encourage you to add Tylenol to your oral pain relief with the narcotic pain reliever and then try to space the narcotic out until you’re not taking in longer. I was continuously on Tylenol for 3 weeks but was off of narcotics 2 days after leaving the hospital.

nssg... I'll look for your post! lol And, right, chapstick. I've got a small bag for DH to bring me once I'm in a room: lip stuff, my own toothbrush and toothpaste, etc.

Champ, I'm having the surgery at Yale, CT.

Keih - thanks for the med recommendations, you are reminding me how to taper an switch. I am such a wimp about pain! But I did fine after the hip surgeries, so... can deal. Gotta get someone else to list Mom's "heavy" things: for a while.

SL,

I was recommending that so you get off the narcotic pain med quicker so you can help your mother.

My surgeon did it that way; Tylenol every 4-6 hours with the narcotic pain meds (only when needed).

Hope all went well and continues to do so. Looking forward to seeing how you did. I might be in the same boat someday as they found a spot of mild dysplasia and are watching me now. Hoping it goes away! ;-D

Thinking about you songlady. The first few days are really tough, but you will heal quickly.
