Just wondering if anyone has tried taking probiotics while on medication for UC and what their results have been? Lialda worked for about
a month for me and it hasn’t been working as well so I just wanna add something to it and see if it’ll help! I have to get a barium enema and I really don’t want to especially after having two sigmoidoscopies and a colonoscopy... off topic but ugh life

Why do you need a barium enema xray?
Please get on rectal meds...i suggest mesalamine retention enemas.
Ive used probiotics since 2000.

I think the check for a fistula at least that’s what I found when I looked up the code on the script
! I told the doctor about
my symptoms and that’s what he said to do next. I will look into rectal meds thank you for replying

Yes, many of us take probiotics while on UC medications. Nothing to worry about
at all.
Look for something with the most strains and highest concentration. Like everything else, probiotics might help but they also may not. Try them and see, but do't expect probiotics to work universally for everyone with a UC. Probiotics did nothing for my UC symptoms, and only gave me crazy gas!
Barium enemas and xray are still a valid means of diagnosing UC, looking for fistulas and other things of that nature. Scopes are usually preferrable, but xray is still valid. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Thanks for everyone’s responses
I’m really trying to avoid a barium enema it sounds so awful to me and I know that’s bratty of me to say given what everyone goes through with IBD :/ I’m just so tired of the symptoms the bloating the gas the running to the bathroom the pain the many other annoyances the anxiety the fear I just want it all to stop and I just am so afraid of even the thought of surgeries I just want a magic pill okay end rant thanks again :”)

Disagree with barium enema diagnosing UC....waste of time, and humiliating test while in agony. I had 15 inches affected with UC...bloody diarrhea....nadda showing. My doctor had the nerve to say I was lucky to not have UC, my how those patients suffer terribly. Thankfully she sent me to a GI....diagnosis after visual was.....wait for it......UC.
WASTE OF TIME TEST!!!!!!!
And yes...I have a strong opinion of this based on experience. Rarely do we hear of anyone having it for diagnosis....nor would I believe if was negative. Other things yes...UC....meh.

Ahh thank you for that !! Sorry that you experienced something so awful
I can’t believe ur doctor said that to you ! They did diagnose me with UC based off of colonoscopy ! This barium enema is for fistula but I’m gonna see if the urogynocologist can diagnose me another way !

I would not have any test form a doc that did not tell me why the test was being ordered.
Unless you missed it in the discussion, this is a red flag.
It may be the correct thing to do. A barium enema is a lot better than a barium milkshake. For one thing you don't crap a painful white brick the day after.
It may be the best way for fistula diagnosis, because I think the alternative is exploratory surgery.
Sound like you got a UC diagnosis after scoping (you did not clearly say) and now there are continued/extra symptoms. Further diagnostics sound reasonable. But you having to look up what the test is for is bullcrap.
You either need a new doc, or need someone to go with you to take notes. It is not acceptable that you don't know why a test is being done.

Baruim swallow is no problem DB....i had no issues the 3 times I had it. Didn't even taste too bad...lol.
The enema xray has a purpose...and makes sense for fistulas.
