I haven’t had a home health nurse after either surgery, and I was nervous about changing the ostomy. Being forced to do it on my own definitely got me up to speed quickly. I do have an ostomy nurse that I have seen for follow up appointments as needed, and she has been a wonderful resource. It’s helpful to have someone tell you what products tend to work best and what might work well for your stoma. Plus, they have access to samples!
I had to see my ostomy nurse today because I had some skin issues that weren’t clearing up. She was great. I have a loop ileo, and I’m having a hard time adjusting after the end ileo. She had me try a one-piece Hollister with a belt, which is working well so far. I didn’t want to use a belt .... hanging to shreds of vanity, I guess. But I definitely feel more secure with it, and it apparently helps quite a bit with the loop, since it’s closer to my skin.
I’ll be curious to hear what setups end up working well for you!
