4 weeks post surgery

Well 4 weeks today since surgery. Wow that went quick. Everything going well. Eating/drinking well. Have to be careful with eating. In NY we have tendency to inhale our food. No inhaleing now. Eat slow and chew. Had Visting nurse over today. Biggest issue for me is keeping area around Stoma clean. Area can get irratated easy. Using wax washer. Wafer sits on my incision on one side so adhesive doesn't stick great. Have seen wax washer leakage last week so had to change right away. Now I'm also a hairy gent so wax gets stuck on hair which is uncomfortable. Nurse told me when she comes Friday she wants me to shower before she comes and to shave area. Shouldn't be a problem. Sleeping with bag is no problem. Started working yesterday. Definitely an adjustment. Trying to move at my normal speed isn't happening. Little light headed in morning trying to set job site up. I'm a contractor so work can be physical. Have my guys doing heavy lifting. Have to be smart with everything I do. God bless. Be well

Good to hear gings are going well and you're back to work. Pace yourself as to not get overly fatigued.

haha, your nurse shaves you? I definitely didn't experience that, but i don't have much in the way of hair in the area. I needed to be done with the nurse. I saw her probably 3x, and then it was time for me to take control. It sounds like you're doing ggreat though, working, feeling stronger, letting people do the work... You need to take it easy! Do you have adhesive remover? I love that stuff. it's one of the things I kept. I am such a wuss, I use it to remove a bandaid now... what a fantastic product.

Glad you're doing well and easing back into it. It's a process, and I believe you've already done the most difficult step. Should be easier recovery in the next step.

Glad you hear you’re transitioning back to life well! The incision does make the wafer adherence a little tricky. I’ve been using barrier strips some to help with adherence. It means a lot of my abdomen is covered by ostomy stuff, but it seems to help keep everything on. When my incision is a little more smooth, I don’t think I’ll need the strips much.
You mentioned spray adhesive remover, which I have heard good things about. I also discovered barrier spray from my ostomy nurse, and I’ll be ordering that with my next supplies. I’ve had to use a powder for yeast, and the spray would be much easier to use with that than the wipes I have.
