Pain jumping around and disappearing- UC or something else?

I was diagnosed with UC in Sept 2017 and I presumed my case was very mild as I didn't need to constantly go to the bathroom (I went 1-3 times a day, very rarely 4) and blood/mucus was very minimal. Urgency was my issue, but even then it was more of a case of "I better get to the bathroom in the next 30 minutes" rather than "I better get to the bathroom in the next 30 seconds". Above all else, I never had any pain.

The last few days however I've been having some pain. It's usually in my left side...but it also jumps around to my right, and then to both sides and then...gone. My GI told me I had 15cm of inflammation so I suppose it causing pain on the left side eventually is understandable, but why the right? UC can't spread that fast, can it? Also, there's the fact it comes and goes to. Is pain with UC usually supposed to be constant? As far as how sever the pain is, I'd put it at a 2/10...it's just more worrying than painful right now.

So, any ideas? Is this UC or something else? I also haven't been sleeping well lately, have been having some lower back pain, and I don't think I've been drinking enough water, so I'm going to try and correct that and see what happens

I’ve been told that inflammatory cells can travel like that. Don’t know if that’s it. But, I have the same thing.
Makes you feel like you’re crazy and look like a faker who can’t remember your symptoms.

When we flare we can get pains elsewhere in our body as an extra-intestinal manifestation of UC.

It traveling around is a good sign it's related to UC. Here's a good read with more info about it:

XX222...are yiu on any UC meds?

Not all pains are related to UC....there is a lot at play when something is hurting.

Sounds that you are flaring.....

The pain was on the lower left side for a few days. It's gone now, although I just went for a 10k run and had it pop up again briefly during it.

@quincy no I'm not on any meds at the moment. I was diagnosed back in september and given a months worth of asacol enemas, which seemed to work fine but after ~2 weeks I was getting constant chest pain. I was worried it may be the asacol, and while my gi said it wasn't likely she supported me going off them to see what happens. the chest pain continued though and I was never given a clear explanation even after several tests (xray, ct, ekg). I have a shoulder issue though, so it might be referred pain.

Anyways despite being off the medication, my symptoms have been mild. 1-2 bm a day, no real urgency, see faint traces of blood and mucus sometimes. I do plan on going back on meds, but I'm living in a foreign country atm (an asian country where ibd is virtually non-existent) and would rather get this sorted out when I return to my home country in a month.

The chest pain could be Costochondritis, inflammation of the cartilage that connects the upper ribs with the breastbone, the sternum.
It is another fun “extraintestinal manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease.”

Scared me to death.

Costochondritis isnt an extraintestinal manifestation of UC.
It is an inflammatory issue, yes.

XX222....Sounds as though you are flaring, and lower left pain wouldn't be referred from your shoulder, but it could be an impingment of upper back and referred to the front. Maybe chest xray would be good if it continues. Could be gas which can cause pain in chest and shoulder depending on what it caused to expand and inflate and press upon.

Please get back on meds, and include rectals.
