First off. So thankful for this forum!!!
Long time lurker.
55 year old male.
Had IBS since my early 30s.
Family heartbreak stressor December 2014.
Severe IBS started November 2015...
Diagonosed with UC April 2016.
Also elevated liver enzymes since 2012.
2012...had every liver test under the sun to try and figure out what was going on with that.
After a bunch of time and money...doctors still...no clue.
So...
Been on Ursodial 500 MG three times a day since 2013 to keep liver enzymes slightly above Normal.
(Ursodial has kept the numbers from being in the 150s...to being in the 80s.)
Been on Humira since summer of 2016 for UC.
In retrospect...GI says elevated liver enzymes in 2012 was a sign the UC was coming. He says that's a known sign UC or Crohn's is coming.
Overall good results with Humira. Hate...hate...hate...the shots. But. Mostly in Remission. But sometimes things can get a little flarey if too much stress or REALLY bad eating.
Bad eating habits a continual struggle for me.
Had to go on prednisone once for a short while to get back to remission...a couple of months ago.
After a little less than a week of prednisone...it worked great. But I put on 8 pounds over the three weeks I was on it...because it made my appetite insatiable.
But. Again. Overall. I think Humira has worked well for me.
So has the Ursodial.
Prefer never to go on prednisone again!
So.
I too...like many here...have decided to give the holistic approach a shot.
(Do I really want to be on Humira long term?...I think most would agree...no)
Went to see a "nutritional doctor" last week.
A Physician Assistant with a wellness medical practice.
Highly recommended by many in the community where I live.
She says she has many IBD success stories.
She says she has many elevated liver enzymes success stories.
Diet...exercise...supplements.
Zero prescript
ions.
So. Several questions maybe some of you can chime in on...
Any familiarity with the Wahl's Protocol diet?
(Version of Paleo. Dr. Wahl...She has a book out all about
it).
This is the diet the local nutritional doctor recommends. Start off with level one and see how that works.
Plus exercise. Plus Supplements specifically targeted to me.
Blood work and poop work results coming in soon.
How do you come off Humera? Do you taper off like prednisone...maybe start stretching shots out from...Every 14 days...to 15 days...to 16 days...etc?
Have appointment with my GI to run all this by him.
Wanted to hear your thoughts and comments. I value them greatly.
Thanks in advance!
