Thanks
Excellent video but I have a couple of comments. He said even though cruciferous veggies have a lot of sulfur they are not associated with IBD. In my case plants in the cabbage family quickly produce toxic symptoms. I agree with his comment about dried fruit and wine with sulfites, they don't work for me.
He explains why UC and CRC inflammation begins at the lower end of the colon, because that is where undigested protein putrefies. But he also says that this can be counteracted by eating resistant starch which creates butyrate that protects the colon. My signature indicates that resistant starch attenuates my symptoms, and that my 'wonder drug' of choice is powdered psyllium seed which is a major source of butyrate when broken down by gut bacteria.
Pseed works for me and from what I see for many others here at HW. But since everyone is different there are many others who cannot tolerate it.
I guess he makes a good case for a plant based diet. But this forum is full of vegetarians who ended up with IBD. Perhaps the problem may not be meat protein itself, but a lack of digestive enzymes or hydrochloric acid to completely digest protein before it reaches the colon.
I wonder what Old Mike thinks about this.
